Centre Captains

A history of athletes selected to represent and lead the Centre as Captains.

Champion Athletes

Champion Athlete Awards are presented to the athlete who receives the highest average number of pentathlon points in regular inter club competition of the summer season across their age grouping.

Champion Overall

Track / Field Award

Known as the Sheryl Purcell Award in honour of the contribution made to Kingsway by Sheryl Purcell. 

The Centre Champion Track / Field award is awarded to the athlete who achieves the highest points score across the Centre, irrespective of their age group.

Personal Best (PB) Champion

Known as the Gardiner Family Trophy in honour of the contribution made to Kingsway by David and Lorraine Gardiner.

The PB Champion award is awarded to the athlete who receives the most personal best performances during the Kingsway Centre’s regular inter club competition during the summer season.

Champion Club

The Champion Club shield is a perpetual trophy that is awarded to the club that receives the highest points score.

The Points score is based on the total pentathlon points received by club athletes divided by the total
number of athletes that have competed for the club during the season.

Parent Relay

Known as the Dennis Knight Trophy in honour of the contribution made to Kingsway by Dennis Knight. 

Each year the Centre shall hold an annual parent relay. The winner of the relay will be determined by the Track Referee. 

Doug Hancy award nominee

Known as the Kim Wood Family Trophy in honour of the contribution made to Kingsway by Kim and Peggy Wood. 

The criteria for this award comprise of many facets - integrity,  courage,  perseverance and challenge. Award recipients become the Centre's nominees for the Athletics West Doug Hancy award. 

Junior Encouragement Award

Known as the Kobhi Eakin Memorial Encouragement award. This award is name in honour of Kobhi Eakin, a young athlete from Goollelal Club that passed away in 2000 after a long battle with Leukaemia. 

The award is presented to an athlete from the U6 to U11 age groups and is determined from nominees submitted by the Chaperones at the end of each Kingsway competition. The Chaperone will select an athlete who has displayed good sportsmanship. 

Kingsway Committee Encouragement Award

Known as the Maywood Trophy in honour of the contribution made to Kingsway by Geoff Mayvis, Francis Mayvis, Charlie Wood and Sue Wood. 

The KLAC Encouragement award recognises the high level of attitude, perseverance, behaviour, competition and good sportsmanship of an athlete.

Inclusion Award

Known as the Miller Family Trophy in honour of the Miller family who donate the trophy each season. The Miller Family had two athletes, Clay and Harry, who competed for many years while living with Cystic Fibrosis. 

The award recipient must have an impairment and shown a high level of commitment, sportsmanship and had a positive and encouraging attitude. 

Kingsway Volunteer Award

The Kingsway LAC Volunteer Awards were introduced in 2019/20 in memory of the members who contributed much to the Centre, but who have passed away, such as Nikki Lopez and Grant Edwards.

The award is presented annually to two Kingsway LAC volunteers who go above
and beyond with regular volunteering to assist the Kingsway Committee to carry out the Centre activities.

State Track & Field Champion

Known as the Kylie Wheeler trophy in honour of former Kingsway athlete Kylie Wheeler who became a Commonwealth Games medallist. 

The Kyle Wheeler award is presented to the athlete who achieves the best performance at the State Track and Field Championships regardless of age or gender. 

Winter Champion

Road Walker

This award is presented to the Champion athlete from the Winter Road Walking season. 

The winner is selected by considering the times of all athletes and comparing them to other athletes and other age groups within the Kingsway winter club.

Winter Champion

Cross Country Runner

This award is presented to the Champion athlete from the Winter Cross Country season.

The winner is selected by considering the times of all athletes and comparing them to other athletes and other age groups within the Kingsway winter club.

Winter Coach award

The Coaches Award is awarded for a season and offered to the athlete who demonstrates the most growth/development, sportsmanship, leadership, punctuality and/or has positively contributed to building Club spirit throughout the season, on and off-track.

Winter Encouragement award

The Winter Encouragement award is awarded to an athlete who has consistently demonstrates a desire to compete and improve in all events. This is not an award measured by winning or by the setting of PB's but rather presented to an athlete who try to the best of their ability at all times.
