State Track & Field Relays 2024
General Information
The WA State Relay Championships are open to athletes in the U9 to U17 age groups. Athletics West only accept entries from Little Athletics Centres and Senior Clubs (no individual entries by members), therefore Kingsway LAC selects the athletes who will represent the Centre based on results from the first few weeks of Kingsway competition.
Kingsway LAC covers the full nomination costs, however athletes are able to select whether they wish to be selected for Track or Field Teams. Athletes are required to wear the Centre uniform for the State Event which consists of the green Kingsway singlet and navy blue Kingsway branded shorts. Both items are available to purchase from the KLAC Office during the season.
Please read our Relay selection Policy for more information on who is eligible to take part and how teams are selected.
The Relay Policy is available at the bottom of the page.
All Abilities / Multi Class teams are open to any individual or group of athletes with a physical, learning, or behavioural condition that would prevent them from participating in their own age group team event. We encourage athletes, whether they have received a specific para-classification or not, to nominate for these events. Where required an athlete is welcome to receive support from a parent/family member or carer throughout the event.
There is also additional information on the Swedish Relay at the bottom of this page.
More information on the event can be found by visiting the Athletics West website

Swedish Relay information
Swedish Relays were introduced to the State Track and Field Relays in season 2023 and will continue into 2024.
Below is information on how the race is conducted.
Swedish relays are a track event in which teams comprise of four runners.
The first runner runs 100 meters, the second one 200 m, the third one 300 m and the fourth runner 400 m,
so that the total length of the race is one kilometre.
Runner 1 (100m)
The race begins on the 200m start marks in each lane, with the first runner running 100m entirely in their lane.
Runner 2 (300m)
The second runner receives the baton in their designated lane, within the third 4x100 change over zone,
running part of their section (leg) in their designated lane.
Once the athlete has entered the front straight and the designated markers of the breakline (e.g. small cones), they may cut across to run on the inside and may then run the remainder of the second leg in the inside lane.
Runner 3 (200m)
The third runner commences at the 200m start point within the (30m) 4x100 changeover zone for lane 1 (extended outwards).
Athletes are lined up in the changeover zone based on the order printed on the start list.
Athletes may run the entire third leg in the inside lane.
Runner 4 (400m)
The final change over occurs in the 4x400 change zone.
There is no acceleration zone.
Athletes enter the changeover zone based on their team’s position at the 200m point.
They may not change order within the changeover zone.
Athletes may run the entire fourth leg in the inside lane.
